For a collaboration with San Francisco clog maker Isobel Schofield, I developed an original, four-strand button knot that fit these requirements: The knot had to be compact enough to look proportionally pleasing on a shoe, sturdy enough to withstand frequent handling without distorting, simple enough that I could make many pairs, and pretty enough that a cool girl would want to wear it.

As a final touch, we gathered the eight legs of the button together and deliberately unraveled them for a decorative fringe.

I loved this collaboration.
